Joyce Arlene Maynard, 77, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, following a brief illness. She was born March 27, 1936, in Sarcoxie to Russell Meister and Velma May Jones Meister. She was married to Charles William Maynard for 47 years and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.
Joyce was born and raised near Carthage. She graduated from high school in 1954, after which she worked as a secretary in St. Louis. It was there that she met and married Charles Maynard.
They purchased a farm near Montevallo in the early 1970’s. She raised a family there and was active in the community through church, 4-H clubs and Eastern Star. They moved to Nevada in 2006. Joyce was a church pianist for many years, and volunteered at Spirit and Truth Ministries in Nevada.
They were members of Heritage Baptist Church in Nevada.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennie Tilton, and her husband, Richard – White Settlement, TX; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Graham – Esparto, CA; two grandchildren, Michael Tilton and Bethany Tilton – both of White Settlement, TX, and three step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers – her twin brother, Terryl Meister, Gary Meister, Wilford Meister and Donald Meister.
Services were held Saturday, May 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Pastor Jeff Adams officiating. Interment followed in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo.
