John D. Pentecost, 92, of El Dorado Springs, peacefully went home to reunite with his wife, Barbara, in heaven Jan. 8, 2020.   John was born on Nov. 18, 1927, in Grain Valley to the union of Earl and Grace Pentecost.  He was the fourth of five children born to this union.  John was preceded in death by his parents; two older brothers, Ellis and Harry; his sister, Barbara, in childhood; and his younger sister, Ruth Ellen Campbell.

John graduated from high school at the age of 16.  After high school he attended SMSU in Springfield, for a short time.  He then joined the United States Navy, where he served 22 months in the Pacific at the end of WWII.  Upon being Honorably Discharged he returned to Missouri, where he eventually married Bonnie Barrett and they have one daughter, Kim Pentecost, from South Carolina.

On May 31, 1957, John Pentecost married Barbara M. Danneker and they have three children – Suzanne Boggs of Edmond, OK, Scott Pentecost of the home, and Kelley McFarland of Waynesville, MO.  Barbara liked to bring home strays and that is how Bob Stacy of El Dorado Springs, MO, became an adopted son.  Seven grand children – Tayler Boggs, Kyle Boggs, Courtney Anderson, Eileen Stacy, Christin Thiessen, Matthew McFarland and Aidan McFarland – also survive John.

John retired from the Post Office in the mid-eighties after 33 years of employment.  He was never without a job.  He was a Jack-of-all-trades and master of none.  John and Barbara were married for over 50 years.  After raising their family they enjoyed having many adventures traveling in their RV from coast to coast and making lots of friends along the way.

When we would tell Dad he “was a great Dad”, he gave all the credit for raising us kids to Mom, however he was the calming influence and an excellent example.

Services began at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Church of God (Holiness) with Rev. Brent Bland officiating.  Burial followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Bob Stacy, Matthew McFarland, Aidan McFarland, Kyle Boggs, Lloyd Pentecost and Gary Vickers.  Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Simrell and Gene Westhoven.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to CMH Hospice and left at the funeral home.
