Yep…it’s a milkweed. As a child, I lived a couple miles south of Tiffin. Quite a few of the lavender milkweeds grew around the farm. They produce a pod, filled with ‘silk’. It was such fun to pop them open and gently blow on them to watch our miniature parachutes drift away.
Later, I lived a couple of miles north of Filley. Sometimes I would see them growing along the roadside.
You couldn’t prove it by me what kind of butterfly was on it…I thought only geese came in gaggles.
