Gladys Kathryn Humeston, 74, residing in South Bend, IN, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in her daughter’s home.
She was born April 24, 1939, in Burt, ND, a daughter of Mike and Rosa (Reichert) Roll. She was one of 14 children.
She moved to South Bend in 1974 and worked at South Bend Drug Company for 15 years and then moved to Missouri. She retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant from Cedar County Memorial Hospital following 20 years of service. She recently returned to South Bend to be near her family.
She loved quilting, sewing, knitting and many crafts. She also loved spending time in Branson. One of her favorite things was shopping and QVC. Christmas season was always her favorite time of the year. Gladys always put out her heart to everyone, making sure everyone’s needs were taken care of.
Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Dana (Robert) Gillespie of Mishawaka and Pamela (Phil) Ashton of Lakeville; five granddaughters – Brittany Eck – Indianapolis, Hannah and Chloe Eck – both of Lakeville and Ashley and Casey Kopriva – both of Mishawaka; a grandson, Anthony Kopriva – South Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Alyssa Kopriva. She is also survived by five sisters, -Delores Lee, Eva Zentner – both of North Dakota, Barbara Kautzman, Anne Kuntz and Viola Dauehauer – all of Montana; a brother, William Roll – El Dorado Springs and companion, William Treibe – El Dorado Springs.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rosella Schneider and Selma Roll, and five brothers – Paul, John, Jerome, Martin and Sebastian Roll.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger. Burial followed at Southlawn Cemetery.
