Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman and Frances Lewis attended the Rich Hill United Methodist Women Brunch at the Rich Hill United Methodist Church Tuesday, Sept. 17. Lisa Alexander from Society of St. Andrew from Kansas City, was the guest speaker.
Those having dinner at Madalyn’s Kitchen after church Sunday, Sept. 22, were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Ruth Ijams, Frances Lewis, Gary Joe and Gayle Dunn, Eternity Dunn and Brent Baughn.
The Schell City/Harwood United Methodist Women met Wednesday evening, Sept. 18, at Madalyn’s Kitchen. Those present were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Jeanie O’Brien, Madalyn Crocker, Ruth Ijams and Sharon Sterling. President Helen Ellerman conducted the business meeting. She gave the devotion taken from Luke 22:31-35, 54-62. Pastor Locke read from the prayer calendar and had prayer. The purpose of UMW was repeated in unison. The card chairman reported sending several cards. Final plans were made for the fall rummage sale to be held Friday, Oct. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Schell City United Methodist Church basement on the south side of the church. Most items are 25¢ except for things marked and the baked goods. Bake goods is Friday only. Plans were made for several members to attend the Missouri United Methodist Women annual conference in Joplin on Saturday, Sept. 28, and the Southwest District meeting at Carthage on Saturday, Oct. 5. Pastor Locke had the lesson “A Call to Prayer” and “Self-Denial: Christian Financial Responsibility.” Refreshments were served which consisted of pizza, summer sausage, cheese, crackers, chips, cherry turnovers, strawberry cream cheese bagels, candy, iced tea and coffee. The next meeting will be Oct. 23 at Madalyn’s Kitchen at 6 p.m. with everyone bringing refreshments.
Church service was held at the Harwood Baptist Church Sunday, Sept. 22. Brother Cliff Bennett’s sermon “How Does God Work” was taken from Acts 11:1-18. A large crowd attended the ice cream social, games and music at the church Saturday evening, Sept. 21. There was a lot of good music and a good time by all attending.
Church service was held at the Schell City United Methodist church Sunday, Sept. 22. Pastor Connie Locke’s sermon “Our Lack of Faith” was taken from Jeremiah 8:18-9:1. The gospel reading was taken from Luke 16:1-13. Sunday School was held before church. Jeanie O’Brien led the lesson “An Everlasting Covenant” taken from Genesis 9:8-17.
The Schell City/Harwood United Methodist Women will work in the Schell City United Methodist Church basement Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 9-11 a.m. If you have anything to donate, you can call 432-3421 or 432-3402.
