14th Annual El Dorado Springs Softball Tournament

Posted September 26, 2013 at 11:13 am

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Lady Bulldogs softball team was able to host their own tournament after being rained out the past two years. There were six teams in action on Saturday. In Pool 1, it was Lamar, Nevada and Miller. Playing in Pool 2 was Archie, Stockton and El Dorado.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the Tournament with Archie losing 15-3. The Bulldogs had the early lead with a sacrifice bunt from Madison Mays scoring Cameron McPeak to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, but Archie was too much for Bulldog pitching as they pounded out 12 hits, scoring 15 runs, 10 earned runs, on six walks and four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs only managed 3 hits of their own, 1 each by Mays, Witt and Salazar.

In the second game of the tournament, the Bulldogs played Stockton looking for revenge for a 12-2 loss earlier in the year at Stockton.

The Bulldogs got an excellent pitching performance from Tailor Hutsell and recorded a 6-2 win against the Tigers. Tailor went the distance for the Bulldogs, pitching 7 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, 0 walks and striking out 3.

Offensively the Bulldogs only got 4 hits of their own, 1 by Madison Mays, Cameron MePeak, Breanna Rhoads and Anyssa Salazar. The 4 El Dorado hits combined with 2 Stockton errors was all the Bulldogs and Tailor Hutsell needed to cruise to a 6-2 win. The win put the Bulldogs in a 3 way tie with Archie and Stockton all with a 1-1 record in Pool Play, the tie breaker was runs allowed in the first two games and since the Bulldogs allowed the most runs they went to the 5th place game as Archie went to the 3rd Place game, and Stockton went to the Championship game.

In the 5th Place game the Bulldogs met Miller and went on to win 12-0 behind a strong offensive performance and a 1 hit pitching performance by Taylor Witt.

The Bulldogs got 12 total hits in the game. Cameron McPeak led the Bulldogs with a 3-3 performance at the plate with 2 singles, and an inside the park home run. Madison Mays tripled, Taylor Witt singled and doubled, Anyssa Salazar doubled, and 5 other Bulldogs added singles. Taylor Witt pitched all 5 innings for the Bulldogs, allowing only 1 hit, 0 runs, and 5 strikeouts to pick up the win for the Bulldogs.

The tournament standings were as follows:

1st Place- Lamar (3-0)

2nd Place-Stockton (1-2)

3rd Place- Archie (2-1)

4th Place- Nevada (1-2)

5th Place- El Dorado (2-1)

6th Place- Miller (0-3)

OUT AT HOME – It was just too tempting for the Archie runner on third base when the Taylor Witt pitch got past Catcher Madison Mays. The throw from Mays to Witt beat the runner at home.
