Matt Martin and his family, Meghan, Isla and Sam, have moved back to Walker from Omaha, NB. His parents, Allan and Diane, are happy to have Matt and Meghan and their grandchildren close by. They will live in the house where Matt grew up. The community welcomes them.
Gilbert and Eleanor Willson and Robert and Barbara Cubbage have returned from vacation in Nashville and Gatlinburg, TN. They enjoyed the Smoky Mountains and climbed the Clingman’s Dome. They toured the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC, which is the largest home in the United States with 250 rooms.
James and Tracy Washburn, Jaycee and Corbin attended a Lamar football game and cheered on their cousins, Jacob and John Rice.
Saturday, Marty and Rich Patton went to Olathe to help Dexter move. Tony, Ashley and Jessa Patton came over after the Mizzou game and they all went out to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse before heading home.
Charles and I visited Fred Haynes Sunday afternoon and attended the Vernon County Historical Society meeting. The program was on how Missouri women survived the Civil War. It makes me thankful for today.
James and Tracy Washburn, Jaycee, Corbin and Declan visited Bob and Laura Clinton as did Jodee Fanning.
The birthdays of Amber and Katrina Weisensee were celebrated recently at the home of their grandparents, Renee and Frank Weisensee. Renee is recovering from a broken leg and surgery so the families brought in the food. Attending were Lisa Christi; Regan, Hayden and Grace; Kevin and Jennifer Gilpin; Caleb, Abigail, Emilia, Katrina and Luke; Rob and Kristina Weisensee; Michael, Christopher, Amber and Rebecca; Shiloh Mitchem and Paul Scougal.
A dozen of Walker is seniors met Tuesday for dinner at the community building. The next meeting will be the second Tuesday in November. A turkey will be furnished with the rest of the meal provided by those attending.
Alberta Hays visited me Thursday afternoon. Nancy Thompson visited Friday morning. Carter Foreman spent the day with Charles and me.
Jim and Jeanne Ogle visited Bob and Jane Hutchison Tuesday afternoon.
Jerry and Jered Burch went to Springfield last Saturday where Jerry attended a meeting and Jered the Ozark Farm Fest.
Alberta Hays, Cheryl Bogardus and Jenise Burch sold food at auctions Saturday and Sunday for NEVC Kids First.
Linda Morris of Belton spent the weekend with her mother, Kathleen Berry. Lavonne Messick visited Kathleen recently.
Thursday evening, Bob and Jane Hutchison went with their daughter, Arlene Good, to a volleyball game at El Dorado Springs to watch their granddaughter, Rilie Good, play.
Bob and Jane Hutchison and I went with the 54 Cruisers Saturday to Collins where we toured the Smith’s Car and Doll Museum and ate at Smith’s Restaurant. It was an enjoyable day.
Gilbert and Eleanor Willson attended the Shepherd of the Hills pageant at Branson as this is their last week. They said they are closing because of the new health bill which forces employers to provide health care if over 50 are employed. Since they only are open a short time, they can’t afford to do it. So there goes another long-time program which many of us have enjoyed.
The birthdays of Karen Hutchison and Colin and Cale McConnaughey were celebrated with a dinner Sunday at noon at the home of Bob and Jane Hutchison. Attending were Bobby and Karen Hutchison, Arlene and Rilie Good, Chas and Steve Morgan, Bryson, Addison, Colin and Cale McConnaughey. Afternoon callers were Debbie and Denny Wallace.
David and Corina Hallam and family from Kansas City spent the weekend with John and Patty Hallam.
Lana Popejoy has spent the past two weeks with her grandmother, Elnora Wallace. Linda and Harry Hardy and Karen Defrieze spent the weekend with them.
The Walker 4-H met at the Walker Community Building Sunday afternoon for their monthly meeting.
Dan and Peggy Washburn of Gardner, KS, visited James and Tracy Washburn, Declan, Corbin and Jaycee on Sunday. They went out to eat and went to a pumpkin patch at Lowry City.
Jenise Burch attended a DAR meeting in Nevada Tuesday. Jerry Burch went to St. Louis on business, but took in the Cardinal/Dodgers baseball game. Saturday, Crystal and Kate Burch went to the Mound City Craft Festival. Jered, Cole and Jenise attended Octoberfest in Nevada. Saturday evening, Jerry and Jenise attended the NRMC Gala in Nevada. Sunday, Jered, Crystal, Kate and Cole had lunch with Jerry and Jenise.
NEVC Basketball Jr. High Girls/Boys: At gym in Walker Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. against Hume. Away games are Oct. 21 at Bronaugh at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Ballard ata 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Sheldon at 5 p.m. Nov. 4-8 Conference tournament at Ballad and Nov. 11-15 tournament at Hume.
NEVC 7th and 8th grade basketball teams shared an exciting game in Walker Tuesday evening. The NEVC girls won by a few points, but the NEVC boys lost 40-41. It was fast-paced the entire game. At the game against Montrose Monday evening at Walker, the NEVC girls lost and the boys won.
NEVC Volleyball-Varsity/Jr Varsity: Home games-Oct. 22 Appleton City at 5 p.m. Away games; Oct. 21 at Bronaugh at 5 and Oct. 25 at Ballard at 5.
The NEVC JR pie supper was Oct. 11.
