VolleyDogs make it to Elite 8 in sectionals

In their final week, the El Dorado Springs VolleyDogs won their 3rd district championship and won their Sweet 16 match advancing to the Elite 8 game losing just one step short of the Final Four in Cape Girardeau.

The VolleyDogs travelled to Diamond on Oct. 29 for the Class 2 District 12 volleyball tournament. ElDo had a bye and the No. 1 seed. They defeated Diamond in the semi-finals 25-13, 25-13.

Kameron Schaaf led the team with 11 kills followed by Alexa Schaaf with nine. Kinli Simmons led the team in assists with 25. Megan Chism had five blocks while Olivia Hallford added three. Fallyn Ozbun had eight digs during the victory.

El Dorado faced College Heights in the championship and easily took the district title winning 25-16, 25-18.

Alexa Schaaf had 10 kills with Kameron Schaaf adding seven. Kinli Simmons had 20 assists. Alexa Schaaf had 17 digs. Megan Chism had five blocks and Kinli Simmons had three.

El Dorado then hosted the Sectional Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The first match of the day was between Fair Grove and Ash Grove. Fair Grove won in two sets.

The VolleyDogs then took on Liberty-Mountain View and, in a hard fought and thrilling match, won 25-23, 17-25, 25-9.

During the match against Liberty, Alexa Schaaf had 14 kills, Megan Chism had nine, Kinli Simmons had eight and Kameron Schaaf had seven. Simmons had 25 assists. Kameron Schaaf had 14 digs. Taylor North had six blocks while Megan Chism had five.

The victory put the VolleyDogs in the Quarterfinal round against Fair Grove. The match was a battle with Fair Grove, who the VolleyDdogs had beaten earlier in the season, eventually pulling off the victory to advance to the Final Four by defeating ElDo 27-25, 25-16.

Alexa Schaaf had seven kills and Kameron Schaaf had six. Kinli Simmons had 16 assists. Alexa Schaaf had 16 digs. Alexa Schaaf and Megan Chism each had three blocks.

El Dorado finished the season with a 27-9 record, first place finish in the Silver Bracket of the Branson Tournament, second place finish at the Buffalo Tournament, second place finish at Stockton Tournament, and a third straight district championship.

“We had a remarkable season,” said Coach Tonya Hooper. “After losing seven players to graduation in 2012, Coach Norman and I had no idea that we would be back in the hunt at this point in the season. Hard work, desire and commitment by our players have made the volleyball program at El Dorado successful.”

The coach said, “We will miss our four seniors -Taylor North, Fallyn Ozbun, Alexa Schaaf and Madi Sibley – next year. We appreciate the impact they have had on this program.”

Coach Hooper and Coach Jeanie Norman would like to thank the players, parents and fans for a memorable season. A special thanks to the community for coming out and supporting the team at sectionals.
