Martha Mae Courtney (Pierce), 78, one of four children was born in Versailles, KY, on March 15, 1935 to Elizabeth and Roy Courtney.
During her first marriage she had three children, Vicky Roark, Billy Hicks and Marcie Hicks.
On July 3, 1973, Martha married James Pierce with his five children, Jenny Welch, Patty Pierce, Jimmy Pierce, Barry Pierce and Carol Hicks. At this time they added two more daughters, Amanda Gould, and Barbara Jo Allen. Together they raised a beautiful family with seven grandchildren, Johnny, Michelle, Mikey, and wife, Bethany, Justin and wife, Melissa, Amanda and husband, Mike, Jessica and husband, Andy, and Robbie, and 16 great-grandchildren.
They resided in a beautiful home in El Dorado Springs.
A home where the door was always open to anyone. She loved to converse and was the first at the table for any family card game.
You could not meet Martha without becoming family. She loved everyone and everything around her. Her heart was kind, forgivable and unconditional. If you were sad or troubled, she had her own unique way of making you smile and feel loved.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Ward and Helen Garman.
Martha will be truly missed and remembered by all her family and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, under the direction of Elijah Burkhart.
Special Music was “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Follow Me”
Casketbearers were Bill Hicks, Lester Blankenship, Maurie Hicks, Cody Blankenship, Dan Gould and Justin Gould
Interment was in the City Cemetery, El Dorado Springs
