In only his second season in wrestling, Hayden Harper advanced to the state tournament last weekend. He will wrestle in Columbia this weekend.

His coach, Justin Stratton, said that some wrestlers go all four years without making the state tournament.

In the district tournament, “we had five kids advance to the tournament in what they call the Go Match. If you win, you go on to state. If you lose, you are knocked out of the tournament. It’s two losses and your are out.”

Hayden Harper is a state qualifier at 152 lbs. Gage Miller made it to the quarter-final. He actually had a big upset over a kid who was 25-3 on the season.

Gage got beat by the No. 1 seed, then had to come back and wrestle the 25-3 kid again and this time it didn’t go our way.

Everybody except for one kid on the team was one match away from going to state this year.

Making it to state after all the snow outs this seasons is a really big accomplishment. So, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we will be in Columbia at the state tournament.

With the circumstances of cancellations, I thought we did really well. We beat some kids that were upsets.
