When the final buzzer sounded on Saturday, March 1, the No. 1 seeded El Dorado Springs Lady Bullldogs had beat the No. 2 seeded Stockton Lady Tigers 62-42 earning themselves their first Class 3 District 13 championship since 2002.
On Monday, Feb. 24, the El Dorado Springs Lady Bulldogs entered the District playoffs as the number one seed facing off against the number eight seeded Warsaw Lady Wildcats. The Lady Bulldogs came out and played very well defensively forcing turnovers and scoring in transition to build an early lead of 22-2 in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs never looked back continuing to build on that lead and finishing off the Lady Wildcats with a 56-11 victory.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs in scoring was Alexa Schaaf with 20 and Kameron Schaaf 11.
On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs were back in action; this time against the number five seed Lady Tigers of Lamar. The Lady Bulldogs came out and played very well defensively which allowed them to score early on fast breaks and push their lead out to 19 points before going into the locker room at half time.
In the second half, the two squads played even with Lamar never getting any closer than 15 points. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with a 58-39 victory and the chance to play for the District Championship.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs in scoring was Alexa Schaaf with 20, Madison Mays 14 and Kameron Schaaf 10.
On Saturday, March 1, the Lady Bulldogs took the court once again. This time playing the number two seed Stockton Lady Tigers. The action went back and forth early with both teams missing easy baskets and turning the ball over, but once the Lady Bulldogs settled down they were able to capitalize with their defensive intensity. At the end of the 1st quarter the Bulldogs had a slim 5 pt lead 15-10.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs got hot from the outside with Madison Mays hitting three 3’s, and being able to push their lead out to 15 points taking a 37-22 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs changed the pace of the game by switching defenses and controlling the ball on offense. When the final buzzer sounded the Lady Bulldogs had their first basketball District Championship since 2002 with a final score of 62-42.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs in scoring was Madison Mays with 19, Alexa Schaaf 17 and Kameron Schaaf with 14.
“The girls came out this week and played very well on both ends of the floor. Our crowd was great and the girls really fed off of them.”
