Betty Sue (Wood) Fugate, 84, El Dorado Springs, left this life on Feb. 15,2022, after a short illness. Betty was born Dec. 1, 1937, in Cedar County, to George T. Wood and Fern (McCullick) Wood. Betty graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1955.

Betty was saved at a young age and baptized in 1947, into the RLDS church of Coal Hill. She continued her walk with Christ throughout her lifetime, attending Coal Hill Community of Christ Church.

Betty and Donald L. Fugate married on Feb. 20, 1972. Collectively they had six children. Betty and Don lived on a cattle farm south of El Dorado Springs for many years. Betty worked at various jobs in her life and retired from the phone company, Contel.

In her retirement, Betty loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read, sew and garden when she wasn’t chasing kids around.

Preceding Betty in death are her parents, George and Fern Wood; sister and brother-law, Patricia and Lynn McCowan; grandparents, Wilma (Allen) and James McCullick, John T. and Myrtle (Lusk) Wood.

Survivors include her husband, Donald L. Fugate; two sons, Terry (Dana) Anderson and Randy (Sandy) Hudson – El Dorado Springs; grandchildren, Cody (Emily) Hudson – El Dorado Springs, and Cheyenne (Mike) Shipp – El Dorado Springs; step-children, Tony Fugate – Texas, Cheryl Barrios – Florida, Debra Degenfelder – Kansas City, Cynthia Fugate  Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Ryker Kutina, Taylee Hudson, Raylee Hudson, Wylee Hudson, Aubrey Johnson, Addisyn Johnson, Amelia Shipp, soon to be born Hudson Shipp and numerous other step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services for Betty Fugate were held Feb. 21, and burial followed in Cole Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
