The Cedar County Sheriff Office in conjunction with St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the El Dorado Springs Police Department, investigated of a string of multiple burglaries in the El Dorado Springs area including Allison’s Convenience Store, Allison’s Tire Store, Althoff Auto Sales, Circle of Friends Flea Market, Doo Dad’ Salvage Grocery, Doo Dad’s Flea Market, along with theft’s from Madalyn’s in Vernon County and Dains Fish Farm in St. Clair County.
Based on information received through the investigation process, on April 16, a search warrant was served at the residence of Michael Phillips located at 409 South Forrest Street in El Dorado Springs. During the search over 100 stolen items were recovered including items from Madalyn’s, Dains Fish Farm, Doo Dad’s Salvage Grocery, Doo Dad’s Flea Market, Circle of Friends Flea Market, Althoff Auto Sales and Fencing Solutions.
Phillips was arrested and charged with five counts of Burglary in the Second Degree. Phillips is currently being held at the Cedar County Jail on a $50,000 bond. There may be further charges from Cedar County, Vernon County and St Clair County.
Upon the completion of the investigation, an additional suspect, Terry Lesmeister has also been charged in connection with the burglaries. The Sheriff’ Office said there will be additional charges filed in this case. Lesmeister is also facing charges from St Clair County.
Sheriff Dwerlkotte of the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the other agencies and citizens that assisted in this investigation. According to Lieutenant Lowe, “Without key information from the other agencies and witnesses, this case may not have been solved so quickly.”
The Cedar County Sheriff Office has worked closely with Chief Schiereck on this investigation. Lowe said, “Chief Schiereck and the El Dorado Springs Police Department have always worked well with the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.”
