Prairie Jubilee comes to Prairie State Park Sept. 24

Celebrate the tallgrass prairie at Prairie Jubilee! Participate in activities such as a living history loop where you can interact with interpreters and others to learn what it was like to live on the prairie. Listen to storyteller Jim “Two Crows” Wallen and enjoy entertainment by the Instars.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, guests will be able to throw an atlatl, watch wool get spun into yarn, observe the style of 19th century cooking, see horses and wagons and listen to the sounds of the prairie. Be sure to take a ride to see the bison and then try some bison meat for lunch, followed by homemade desserts. Guests can also visit with representatives from the Missouri River Bird Observatory, the Missouri Prairie Foundation, Missouri Department of Conservation, Fort Scott National Historic Site and George Washington Carver National Monument, all of whom partner to protect and preserve the tallgrass prairie.
Due to the unique and rare diversity of life preserved at Prairie State Park, pets are not allowed on park trails, except for Path of the Earth People and Path of the Sky People trails. Bison graze freely in the park and this regulation protects both you and your pet. You are welcome to bring your pet to the park’s campground and picnic area, but must follow Missouri State Parks’ pet rules. This applies to all types of pets except service animals assisting people with disabilities.
Prairie State Park is located at 128 NW 150th Lane in Mindenmines. For more information, call 417-843-6711. All traffic is required to enter from the north, as there is one-way traffic on Northwest 150th Lane. Visitors should travel to the park by way of Liberal, Missouri.
