For the second year in a row, the El Dorado Springs middle school and high school yearbooks have ranked among Josten’s National Program of Excellence! The high school yearbook earned silver, while our middle school earned bronze.

The program awards yearbook staff that shines in the creation and distribution of their yearbook. Being the second year in a row our staff has been awarded, yearbook editor Krystal Carlin,11, felt incredibly proud. “It felt super rewarding to earn silver on our yearbook last year. Our staff, including me, was very dedicated to making the best yearbook possible. We really poured a lot of effort into making it and really thought about our peers during the process,” said Krystal.

A lot of effort is put into the creation of our yearbooks every year. Journalism teacher Amber Francis makes sure that the yearbook staff is working to include every student in the yearbook at least 3 times. “That’s our #1 goal and it’s a lot harder than you think! Some kids are involved in literally every single thing and some kids come to school, do their work, and go home  and they’re the ones who are hard to get. But to us, every single student is important and every single story is important,” said Mrs. Francis. There are many lists and checks in the production of the books making sure everyone is included. Lots of extra responsibilities come with the job whether finishing spreads, meeting deadlines or covering events. “In class, you have to be actively engaged and working intently to have a successful book,” said Krystal.

Though the work may be stressful at times, they are many aspects of it that make everything worth it. The staff gets to go through an incredible brainstorming process in which all students interact and come up with ideas for the yearbook. They all come together as a collective and begin working as a team.

If you are looking to join in on this fulfilling process editor Krystal would like you to know that everybody can be an excellent member of the yearbook staff. “Each of our members has their own talent and personality to bring to the table. I remember joining the class and being super worried about not fitting in but I fell in love with the creative process of it and I made some amazing friends along the way. If you want a fun, interactive class that also challenges your yearbook would be a great fit for you,” said Krystal.
