Phony e-mail notices to appear in court

Posted August 28, 2014 at 4:51 pm

The public has been receiving email messages that masquerade as an official notice from the court. This email is a phishing message which means that the link contains a virus that is loaded on your computer after it is opened and is designed to steal personal information such as passwords from your computer. If you receive such an email, DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.

If you already have opened the attachment, it is recommended that a complete virus scan on your computer be run. If you would like to verify that you should appear in court, please contact your local court clerk’s office.

Here is an example of what the message may look like:

From: Notice to Appear

Subject: Notice of appearance in court

Notice to Appear,

Please bring all documents and witnesses relating to the case with you to Court on your hearing date. The copy of the court notice is attached to this letter.
