The second practice for the 2014 El Dorado Springs Bulldog Softball Team was set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Head Coach Jarrod Mays was upbeat about the prospects for the season when the Sun spoke with him Tuesday morning.

He said 15 players are out for the team.

Q. Is that enough?

Yep. They are the right ones.

Q. If they are not the right ones, you will make them the right ones?

We were undefeated in our summer league. We should be pretty strong. As long as our pitchers stay healthy we will be pretty strong.

Q. That would be Tailor and Taylor.

Tailor Hutsell is pitching really well and so is Taylor Witt. We should be pretty tough.

Q. How is the hitting?

We have swung the bat well all summer long. We can run a little bit. We can bunt a little bit. We can swing a little bit. We are pretty balanced. We look pretty strong really.

Defensively, we will have some girls in some new spots. They looked good all summer long and even in practice yesterday.

I am anxious to get to some games. I think they are going to be pretty strong.

Q. When is your first game?

Monday, Aug. 25, at Walnut Grove. Our first home game will be against Montrose here at 4:30 Tuesday, Aug. 26.

We will play this Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Red/Black scrimmage.

We will get to host the softball jamboree Saturday, Aug. 16.

Q. Anything else you want fans to know?

We have good talent in seniors and juniors and sophomores and freshmen. We have good balance. I have four seniors. They all work extremely hard and seem to get along good with each other. I think we have a chance to be pretty good.

We won 15 games last year and want to improve on that.

We can do a lot of things. We really can. We can swing the bat. We can run. We are pretty good in the field. You put all three of those things together at once and we ought to be pretty good.
