On Tuesday, the Sun spoke with the new head Bulldog Head Football Coach Derek Scroggins.
Q. How did your first football practice go Monday evening?
It went pretty well. We had 45 out there.
Q. Is that what you expected?
Yes. That’s pretty much what we expected this first year. I hope we can retain as many of them as possible. We’ll grow and get better and go from there.
Q. How did the practice go?
It went well. They picked things up real well.
Q. Isn’t the first game with Stockton?
Yes. Aug. 22 in Stockton.
Q. It will be the Cedar Bowl. We need to win that and bring that trophy home. You know who made the trophy?
Yes. Mr. Koca did. He already let me know.
Q. We will have the Red/Black scrimmage Saturday?
Q. What style of offense can we expect?
We will test their defense and try to take advantage of what we are seeing and try to go from there.
As far as starters, this will be the first time we have seen the players in full pads. It will give us an idea as we set up the depth chart.
Q. How many starters will you have back from last year?
It looks like around 14.
Q. Any idea who will be the quarterback?
We will try to get everyone an equal number of plays going into Saturday. We will start putting together a depth chart after we play and see them at full contact.
Q. Anything else you want folks to know?
I think so far, so good. We are having a lot of fun.
Q. When do you practice?
We go from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the practice field.
Q. Where will the Red/Black scrimmage be?
On the practice field starting at 6 p.m.
