On Nov. 28, 1944, in Birdsong, Arthur Lee Witt and Oma Elnora (Dillsaver) Witt welcomed their second child, Violet Mae Witt.

Violet grew up in the Blackjack area and attended school there until it was consolidated with El Dorado Springs. For her high school years, Violet attended Gravette Holiness Bible School in Arkansas, where she met her future husband, Fred Teed.

Fred and Violet were married at the Blackjack Church of God (Holiness) on June 4, 1966. They were soon blessed with three children, and Violet became one of the most wonderful mothers anyone could have hoped for. In her later years, Violet was able to extend the same unfailing love to her grandchildren, who loved her deeply in return and will never forget the time spent on Grandpa and Grandma’s farm.

Violet was widely known for her hospitality, hosting innumerable family gatherings, and inviting houseguests for months at a time. She was also deeply devoted to her church, where she taught Sunday School for many years; hosted teen events; and lent her support in any way she could.

Violet was a natural-born teacher, and although she never had the opportunity to finish college, she spent the happiest years of her life teaching school. Violet had a special interest in grammar, and the many students who passed through her classes at GHBS, Fort Scott Christian Heights, or El Dorado Christian School soon became grammar experts as well. Most of all, though, she was interested personally in her students and did all she could to support them through prayer and friendship.

On May 25, 2023, Violet’s soul was set free. We know that her death was in God’s perfect timing, and we trust that He will bring peace and comfort to those who feel her absence so deeply.

She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Fredrick Lee Teed; brother, James Witt; sisters, Judy Carol Owens, Deanie Parsons and Ruby Lyon; three children, Janice and Scott Black; Maritza and Gary Jennings; Rick and Melinda Teed; her grandchildren, Melissa and Dillion Burgett and Katie, Audie, Jessica, Elijah, Spencer, Annie and Maritza Black; great-grandchildren Kellen and Liam Black and Aiden and Ivy Mae Burgett; and many beloved brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
