L. Milton Hertzberg, 93, Nevada, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a brief illness. Milton was born Aug. 15, 1929, in El Dorado Springs to Lawrence and Nellie (Allen) Hertzberg. Milton was raised in El Dorado Springs and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1947. On April 16, 1950 he was married to Zenial E. McPeak and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2015. Following high school, Milton graduated from the Draughon’s Business College in Springfield. After college, Milton came back to El Dorado Springs and went into the family furniture business with his father. In 1955 he moved to Nevada and opened up Hertzberg Furniture which he continued to operate until his retirement. Milton was a long-time member of the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Country Club and the Mid-Missouri Bancshares Board of Directors.

Milton was an accomplished trombone player who played in the El Dorado Springs Community Band. He had his own band and had a manager who arranged for them to play in dance halls in the area. Milton had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying, was in many bridge clubs and played regularly. He taught Steve, Connie, Karen and all their friends how to play. Milton also loved golf; he had several holes in one during his lifetime. He and Zenial always planned vacations around golf outings.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie Mangiaracina, and her husband, Phillip, of Kansas City; daughter-in-law, Karen Hertzberg, Nevada; three grandchildren, Blake Hertzberg (Amy) of Nevada, Darcy Herold (Jason) of Lee’s Summit and Sean Mangiaracina (Allegra) of Overland Park, KS; five great-grandchildren, Paige Hertzberg, Parker Hertzberg, Bennett Herold, Alexandria Herold and Lucy Mangiaracina; sister, Marva Lee Stephens of Coffeyville, KS; nephew, Kyle Stephens (Carol) of Coffeyville, KS. Milton was preceded in death by his wife, Zenial, son, Steve Hertzberg and grandson, Harrison Herold.

Services were held Friday, July 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada with Pastor Michelle Whitlock officiating. Interment was followed in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
