MFA STATION CLOSES – After about 70 years, the old red brick service station that anchored the corner at South Main and West Twyman has closed. But not completely. It will still supply red diesel to tractors and trucks at one of its south pumps. There just won’t be anyone at the station to keep the doors and windows open, talk about the weather or share the latest news. A sign of the times perhaps – leaving a little more of El Dorado Springs to people’s memories.
Donald Hertzberg said that his dad, Herman Hertzberg, was the first manager of the station taking that position right before WWII. At that time tires and gas were rationed and Herman and Assistant Manager Olen Barrett kept up with the rationing coupons. Herman retired in 1966.
