Fireworks are comin’. We have a list of area fireworks shows on the front of the Freedom tab – inside your newspaper.
-The office will be open the morning of the 4th while we get the paper out for you, then it will be closed later, probably about noon. We’ll try to make the usual deliveries to the stores.
– I really enjoyed my interview with Wilbur and Margaret Charbonneau about their fireworks business. Some of the things they told me just left me with my mouth open. I had no idea. Article on Page 1.

My trip to the store:
There was a bit of confusion at the store this morning. When I was ready to pay for my groceries, the cashier said, “Strip down, facing me.”
Making a mental note to complain to my congressman about Homeland Security running amok, I did just as she had instructed.
When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to my credit card.
I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.
They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer.
– On Jun 21, Northeast Vernon County Superintendent Charles Naas e-mailed me about the article on his board secretary, Freda Flint:
I have to tell you this story, though! I saw the newspaper laying in the office, folded…. I knew that Freda’s article was on the front page, but I could only see the title of a picture: Out of Gas
And I thought…. “…If Kenny titled her article ‘Out of Gas’ he is going to be SHOT!!!…”
A quick unfolding of the paper revealed the truth (Kimball’s photo and cutline was about the MFA Station closing) and a huge air of relief was felt.
