The El Dorado Springs Picnic committee came into possession of an article written in 1882. It called the Picnic the “anniversary” Picnic. To honor our forefathers of 130 years, the committee voted to call it the 131st El Dorado Springs Anniversary Picnic.
The El Dorado News (paper of the day) proclaimed the El Dorado Springs Anniversary Picnic “A Grand Success”. It stated that “15,000 people attend the Anniversary Picnic at El Dorado Springs.” The streets were lined with 14 or 15 booths; there were 8-10 swing rides located on the grounds as well as a big dance floor. The band that played was from Walker.
It really doesn’t matter what you may want to call it, The Anniversary Picnic. the Annual Picnic, the Founders Day Picnic or just the Picnic, it is a very special time for our community. It is a time we have all come to know as the time of year to visit with people you haven’t seen in several years or since last year's Picnic, to have class reunions, to graze through all the food booths enjoy the carnival rides and of course see all the entertainment that is offered.
The Picnic committee spends countless hours planning each year’s activities. They do it with their love of El Dorado Springs and its people in their hearts and minds. So, come to the Picnic on July 19-21 and call it what you will, but please enjoy it and think about that anniversary Picnic 130 years ago.
