The Cedar County Historical Society held its annual meeting July 31 in the museum in Stockton. Before the meeting was called to order we enjoyed a wonderful potluck dinner with food contributed by all members.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Members present were: President Judy Nichols, Vice President Bob Philips, Secretary Connie Maupin, Treasurer Kay Snow, Assistant Treasurer Shirley Hedges-Potts, Kenneth Potts, Judi Cain, Don Cain, Sharyl Henry, Vernal Henry, Luella Phipps, Marcie Haralson, Chris Barber and Christopher Miller.

President Judy Nichols’ annual report, Secretary Connie Maupin’s monthly and annual report and the monthly and annual treasurer’s report presented by Kay Snow were approved.

Leslie James, Field Archivist for the Mo. State Archives, will present a program and slideshow on “Prohibition in Cedar County” at the museum on beginning at l p.m., Monday, Aug. 28. The public is invited and it is free. A monthly business meeting will follow the program.

The newly revised by-laws were accepted by the membership.

The books, Historical Sketches of Cedar County, have arrived and are available for sale at $20 each.

Members working at the Wayside Inn with The Preserve Our Past Society during the El Dorado Springs Picnic were Judy Nichols, Bob Phillips, Glenda Pate, Marcie Haralson and Christopher Miller. Shirley Hedges-Potts displayed one of her lovely quilts in the show held at the Wayside Museum during the Picnic.

Our regular monthly meeting day has been changed to the last Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

The Society will again have a booth at the Black Walnut Festival. The museum will also be open. Please be sure to stop by and see us.

Judy Nichols provided us with information about the Korth Fall Family Festival Fundraiser and Hog Roast to be held on Sept. 9 at 504 Shady Lane in Stockton, the property of Idella LaRocca. More information and tickets can be obtained by calling the Korth Center at 417/276-5306. The funds will help pay for the Meals on Wheels program.

A certificate of appreciation was presented to Kay Snow in recognition of all of her work and dedication to the Society over the years. We are sorry to report that Kay has now resigned from her position as treasurer.

The last item on the agenda was the election of new officers for the following year. The results were as follows: President – Judy Nichols, Vice President – Judith Cain, Secretary – Connie Maupin, Treasurer – Shirley Hedges-Potts and Assistant Treasurer – Glenda Pate.

Our next meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, in the museum at 106 West Davis Street in Stockton.

Our meetings are open to the public. The museum and research library is open the first and third Wednesday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. or you may call to make an appointment.
