The Rock Wall

Oops. It’s my turn again. Kenny frames himself in the door to my office and says, “Why don’t you write the Rock Wall. I don’t have anything to say.”

Well, you know I do.

This time of year is like riding your bike down a hill and realizing you have no brakes. I mean there is something going on all the time. Gone are those hot, hot (maybe an extra hot, here) days of summer when you really didn’t want to do anything anyway. The cool mornings give you a little extra energy and it’s a good thing, too, because we’re going to be running like mad until we crash into 2013 in about three and a half months. That’s right – 111 days and we start all over again.

So, here’s what you need to do. Plan your social calendar around all the great things that are going on in El Dorado Springs and the extended community.

You’ve already missed the Wayside Inn pancake feed, the UMC Art show an sale, and the American Iron Car show. And if you have kids in school, especially Middle School and high School you’re really running.

Go to your calendar and right this down: Walker Fun Days is this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15; The Black Walnut Festival in Stockton is Wednesday, Sept 26 – Saturday, Sept 29.

The El Dorado Springs Chamber of Commerce Banquet is Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Leeper Building: the Miss Cedar County/ Miss Southwest Missouri Fundraiser is Oct.13 as is the Band Fest which marches downtown; The Wayside Inn Museum will serve biscuits and gravy on Saturday, Oct. 20, and later that day (not much later) is the 8th Annual SCRG Chili Cook-off on Spring Street at the same time the Arts and Crafts Festival is going on in the Old Community Building in the Park: Us folks at the North end of North Main have our Block Party on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Spooktacular is Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the Park.

On to November: The Cedar County Memorial Hospital Endowment Fund Banquet is Thursday, Nov. 1: the Christian School Auction is Thursday, Nov. 8. A Christmas Open House for retailers is planned for Saturday, Nov. 10; The Wayside Inn Museum will host their Holiday Tea on Thursday, Nov. 15; the Christmas Lighting is on Monday, Nov. 19, in the Park; enjoy Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 22; (on a personal note, I’m supposed to buy icicles for my tree on Nov. 23 – I wrote it on my calendar)

Relax. So far there on three things on the calendar for December. The Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 8, and the Miss Cedar County/Miss Southwest Missouri Pageant later that evening … and Christmas.

Do not hesitate to fill in any day that isn’t already over run with activities. Just let me know.

Kenny always tells you about our cats. Something almost scared the little fuzzy britches off of Bella and she wouldn’t go outside for a few days. Bellevue has decided that snoring under our bed in the middle of the night is the thing to do and Caddeaux is his normal laid back, King of his domain self.

Please try to think of something to do for the next three and a half months.
