Wanda Lou Rountree

Wanda Rountree, 85, died peacefully Dec. 3, 2017, in Littleton, CO. She was survived by three children, Glen, Jim and Ann, and sister, Beula Tolle.  In addition Wanda had eight grandchildren, Adam, Melissa, Rachel, Sarah, Alex, Erik, Brandy and Krystal, and six great-grandchildren including the youngest, Baby Oliver, whom she got to see before she passed away. Wanda’s husband James proceeded her in death in 2012.

Wanda was born Aug. 1, 1932, in El Dorado Springs to Glen Crawford Lynn and Beula (Brown) Lynn. She grew up there and in Kansas City. On Dec. 11, 1948, Wanda married James Rountree who was working for MFA. After living several years in El Dorado Springs, Wanda and James moved the family first to Scottsbluff, NB, and then to Green River, WY, where they lived for 37 years. In retirement they moved to the Denver Colorado area.

Wanda was a great cook, and made a big impression on grandchildren with pink pancakes and giant peanut butter cookies. She insisted on babysitting them at least once a week, and was always available for babysitting emergencies. Even though her grandchildren were scattered all over the world, she managed to make them all feel special. As granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah, pointed out, “she made us feel loved, even when we didn’t speak a word of English.”

In addition to cooking and caring for her family, Wanda’s passions included shopping, decorating her home and collecting pink depression glass. She was a long-time member of the National Depression Glass Association. She was well read on the subject, and extremely knowledgeable of the many patterns known to collectors.

In lieu of flowers, Wanda requested that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family will be organizing a ceremony this coming summer in Green River Wyoming for both James and Wanda.
