DAR ESSAY WINNERS – Daughters of the American Revolution-Elizabeth Carey Chapter held their 2019 Good Citizen/American History Essay Award ceremony on Sunday afternoon, February 10, at the First Christian Church in Nevada, Missouri.  The chapter’s Regent, Mrs. Heather Brown, welcomed the crowd and introduced Chairman, Mrs. Jenise Burch.   Following the pledge of Allegiance and American’s Creed, Mrs. Burch awarded, Good Citizen Awards to six local high school seniors for their award winnings essay’s, titled, “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility.” Mrs. Lori Hunt, Chairman of the American History Essay for grades 5th through 8th, and the Christopher Columbus Essay contest for 9th-12th grade, was unable to attend; therefore, Mrs. Linda Mitchell introduced the winners of both contests.  The title of the 2018 American History essay contest was, “The Women’s Suffrage Campaign.”   Winner of the seventh grade category was, Christian Steuck. Christian attends El Dorado Christian School; she thanked her ECS history teacher, Mrs. Cheryl Eslinger for her help and guidance, and proceeded to read her essay; Christian was awarded a medal, certificate, and monetary gift.   The winner of the Christopher Columbus Essay contest was, Jordanne Steuck.  Jordanne is a sophomore at the El Dorado Christian School.  Her essay topic was, “Comparing Ship Technology, “The Ships Columbus Used vs. the Ships of Today.” Jordanne thanked her ECS teachers; Mrs. Janet Swank and Mrs. Cheryl Eslinger, she then proceeded to read her essay.  Mrs. Mitchell presented Jordanne with a medal, certificate, and monetary gift.  All winning essays are entered in the Missouri State DAR contest.  Pictured from left are Mrs. Heather Brown, Jordanne Steuck, Sylvia Rainey, Christian Steuck, Mrs. Linda Mitchell and Mrs. Jenise Burch.
