Each year the local VFW Post 257 participates in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholarship Program by way of the Patriot’s Pen and the Voice of Democracy essay programs.

The Patriots Pen is for grades 6,7 and 8. The Voice of Democracy is for grades 9 – 12.

At the local level there were entrees from the Public School, the Christian School and home schooled students.

There were a total of 102 entries in the Patriot’s Pen contest writing about “The America I Believe In.”

There were a total of 36 entries for the Voice of Democracy Competition. This year’s theme was “My Responsibility to America.”

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY WINNERS – 3rd place Christian School – Tyler Jackson, 2nd place Christian School – Abigail Batson, 2nd place Public School – Makaylee Pulley, 1st place Public School – Garin McCullick and 1st place Christian School – Brayden Housh.
