WHEAT STATE KARATE CLASSIC – This tournament season the members of Team VDK is sure racking up the miles and Saturday was no different for Hunter Malensek as he and his family traveled to Wichita, KS, for the annual Wheat State Karate Classic which is part of the O.K.A. Tournament Circuit.

The Wheat State Karate Classic is still a relatively new tournament on the circuit but has become a very popular one that attracts competitors from across the nation. The Wichita Sports Forum was packed with competitors and their supporters for what turned out to be a very good tournament. The crowd was wowed by not only some strong and beautiful traditional Karate Forms but also some high flying and acrobatic Extreme Martial Arts. One might have thought that you might have walked into a Jackie Chan or Jet Li movie.

Hunter who competed in the 13-14 Youth Intermediate Division had some very strong competition put his long hours of dedicated practice did not let him down and was rewarded with a 3 for 3 result. Hunter won 1st Place in Traditional Weapons, Open Hand Forms and Point Sparring.  Hunter leads the points scores in all three of his disciplines for his age division in the Oklahoma Karate Association Points Race.
