Five members met on Sept. 21, at the home of Ursula Fuller.

The meeting was called to order by President Ursula Fuller and the group recited the Club Collect. For roll call each member shared her favorite garden fragrance.

The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved as they were not available at the August meeting. The treasurer’s report was read and accepted.

Correspondence: Ursula Fuller reminded everyone that she forwards all mail from the district and/or State to each member.

Reports of Committees: No reports.

Old Business: None

New Business: Jeana Ochsner has resigned as treasurer. Changes in her work location was cited as the reason. Sharon volunteered to assume the responsibilities as treasurer until election of officers is held if Marilyn would again take over as secretary. Marilyn agreed to do this. Ursula suggested that we ask Jeana to sign 4 checks to get us through the fall membership business and one to reimburse her for an expense she had.  Both Ursula and Marilyn plan to attend the Fall District Meeting in Springfield.

Discussion: Time was spent discussing membership and how best to encourage community members to consider becoming a member of the club.  Several suggestions were put ‘out there’ for consideration:

Changing time of meeting from evening to afternoon? Changing the day from 3rd Tuesday to the first or 2nd Tuesday, or even changing the day from Tuesday to another day of the week.  We are to all think about this and discussion will continue at our next meeting.

Next meeting: Monday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m. at the Pink Garden. This will be a work day with time for a lunch break. Everyone is to bring her/his own sack lunch, a drink and a folding chair of some sort plus work tools, gloves and bags for debris.

Marilyn Dresch gave an interesting program on Bird of Missouri with pictures and statistics about the most common backyard birds. She has lots of Northern mocking birds at her rural home. She said there are 438 species of birds in Missouri depending on the time of year.  She also talked some about having the proper bird house for each species of bird which we would like to attract and she challenged each of us to get to know the birds in our backyard not only by sight but by each bird’s specific call.

After the program the meeting was adjourned and the group recited the closing vow.

Our hostess served delicious slider sandwiches, there was a salad and for dessert, brownies. Hot spiced cider was also served.

Respectfully submitted,

Sharon West Lansing
