ST. CLAIR COUNTY SHERIFF

Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made 10 arrests and took multiple reports during the week of March 10 through 17, 2020.

Warrant Arrests

Mary Borland- On March 16, Mary Borland, 43, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony assault in the third degree. Borland was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to the Wildflower Inn in reference to a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the parties involved. Borland stated while her clothes were in the dryer, a female removed her clothes and placed them on the floor. Borland saw this happen and returned her clothes to the dryer causing an altercation with Brooks.

Brenda Brooks- On March 16, Brenda Brooks, 54, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony assault in the third degree. Brooks was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to the Wildflower Inn in reference to a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with Brooks. Brooks stated she was assaulted by two people while she was in the laundry room. Brooks stated that while in the laundry room, she removed the laundry out of the dryer that belonged to someone else and placed it on the floor causing an argument with the owner of the clothes.

Virginia Shea- On March 16, Virginia Shea, 38, Independence, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Shea was placed on a 24 hour hold pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to the Shelby’s Gas Station to check the well being of a person inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, the deputy located the female, later identified as Shea, inside her vehicle. The deputy awoke Shea. The deputy observed some signs that Shea may be under the influence of a narcotic. The deputy did offer medical services to Shea; which she refused. The deputy asked for and was denied consent to search the vehicle. A K9 unit was called to the scene to perform an exterior sniff test of the vehicle. The K9 did alert to the odor of narcotics. During a search of the vehicle a plastic baggie containing a white crystal like substance was located in a bag on the passenger seat. A further search of the vehicle revealed a black tar like substance and 16 loaded syringes with a black tar like substance in them.

Shea admitted the white substance was methamphetamine and the black tar substance was heroine.

William Elliott- On March 15, William Elliott, 62, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony assault in the third degree. Elliott was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a victim stated that Elliott kicked him in the face during an argument. The deputy confronted Elliott to get his side of the story and Elliott did admit to kicking the victim in face.

Ernie Haas- On March 15, Ernie Haas, 37, Clinton, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony driving while revoked/suspended. Haas was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Haas was driving for an equipment violation. A record check revealed Haas had multiple priors for driving while revoked or suspended.

Renee Houk- On March 14, Renee Houk, 40, Clinton, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with a probation violation on an original class D felony possession of a controlled substance. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.

The original charges stem from an investigation by the Mid Missouri Drug Task Force and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office in November of 2017.

Mary Carter- On March 12, Mary Carter, 77, Appleton City, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with a class D felony stealing-$750 or more. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after fraudulent activities were brought to light after Carter was appointed as the personal representative for the estate of Sharon Barr. There were several checks written from the estate for Carter’s personal use.

Veronica Roberts- On March 12, Veronica Roberts, 18, El Dorado Springs, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on multiple Cedar County warrants for misdemeanor violation of child protection order and a failure to appear in court on an El Dorado Springs Police Department warrant. Bond is set at $200 cash only on the Cedar County warrants and $526.50 cash or surety on the El Dorado Springs Police Department warrant.

Joshua Bellington- On March 11, Joshua Bellington, 36, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a Jackson County warrant for failure to appear in court on a felony charge. Bond is set at $2,500 cash only.

Andre Johnson- On March 11, Andre Johnson, 29, Raytown, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class E felony driving while revoked/suspended. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

The arrest comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to Highway 13 in regards to a black Dodge vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. A record check of the driver, identified as Johnson, showed he had multiple previous driving while suspended convictions.

Stolen Vehicle Out of Collins

On March 15, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to a residence on Coon Creek Street in reference to a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with Vassey Haven. Haven stated Terry Vanholt showed up at his residence at approximately 8 a.m. and woke Haven up. Vanholt informed Haven he was going to pick up a double axle trailer Haven had bought from Vanholt. Haven stated he heard a vehicle drive off, but thought it was Vanholt in his own vehicle.

When Haven got out of bed, he noticed his truck missing from his driveway and his truck keys were not on the table where he had left them. Haven did not give Vanholt permission to use his vehicle.

Haven stated his truck is a red 2001 Dodge Ram short bed, quad cab with a Highway Patrol sticker on the rear glass.

On March 16, the stolen truck was recovered. Haven called and stated his truck was down the road from a gas station in Humansville. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to have a deputy go to the scene and secure the vehicle. The vehicle was processed and released back to Haven.

Stealing in Appleton City

On March12, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to a residence on NW 1000 Road in reference to stealing. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with Paul Harms. Harms stated on March 11 a white male wearing a black mask and wearing camouflage clothing came onto his property and stole some items. Harms stated the subject came back on March 12 and stole some more items.

Items missing include an Ox/acetylene cart with the two tanks, a Century AC/DC arc welder, a red Craftsman stackable tool box on wheels. It was also discovered that six car batteries were gathered together as if the subject was going to return to collect the items.

The deputy collected the photos of the subject from Harms’ game camera. Estimated loss value not know at the time of this report.

Fraud in Osceola

On March 12, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to the Amish Trading Post in reference to fraud. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with a store employee, who stated a person came in and purchased an Amish made wooden chair and paid for it with a check. The check was drawn off on account that was closed in July 2019.
