Sheriff Scott Keeler reported deputies made 15 arrests and took two stealing reports during the week of May 12 through 19, 2020.

Warrant Arrests

Mark Buce- On May 18, Mark Buce, 32, Deepwater, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him failure to appear in court on an original class C felony receiving stolen property and a class A misdemeanor resisting/interfering with arrest, detention or stop. This is a no-bond warrant.

The charges stem from an incident in December of 2016, when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a pickup truck near NE 501 Road and Highway CC, Osceola. When the deputy activated emergency lights the truck slowed down like it was going to stop then accelerated and continued on NE 501 Road. The truck traveled for approximately one mile before stopping.  Buce, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody. A check of the vehicle revealed it was stolen from Benton County.

Austin Boyd- On May 18, Austin Boyd, 22, Kansas City, was arrested on three St. Clair County warrants for failure to appear in court for an original ordinance charge for exceeding the posted speed limit by 11-15 mph, an ordinance charge for driving while suspended, and an ordinance charge for expired plates. The total bond is set at $383.50 cash only.

The original charges stem from a traffic stop by the Osceola Police Department in December of 2019.

Chelsea McDaniel- On May 18, Chelsea McDaniel, 23, Bolivar, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with a class D felony possession of a controlled substance. Bond is set at $4,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a residence on SE Highway PP in June of 2019. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with Marshall Crockett and Amber William. William stated she noticed McDaniel smoking marijuana on the back porch of the residence and confronted her about it.

A couple of hours later the deputies were dispatched back to the residence in regards to some pills. The deputies asked for and were granted consent to search the residence. During the search, a plastic bag with prescription pills was located in McDaniel’s property.

Jason Martinez- On May 18, Jason Martinez, 38, Warsaw, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree. Martinez was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after the vehicle Martinez was driving was pulled over for an equipment violation. The deputy made contact with the driver. During the conversation, the deputy asked for and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search, a large amount of cash was located along with a box of syringes, a container of AniMed MSM, and a couple of scales with a crystal-like residue on them. The residue field-tested positive for methamphetamine. After having the VIN checked, the vehicle came back as stolen out of Kansas City.

Jennifer Petty- On May 18, Jennifer Petty, 27, Bolivar, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree. Petty was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after the vehicle Petty was a passenger in was pulled over for an equipment violation. The deputy made contact with the driver. During the conversation, the deputy asked for and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search, a large amount of cash was located along with a box of syringes, a container of AniMed MSM, and a couple of scales with a crystal-like residue on them. The residue field-tested positive for methamphetamine. After having the VIN checked, the vehicle came back as stolen out of Kansas City.

Caleb Schalk- On May 18, Caleb Schalk, 24, Garden City, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class E felony resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing-creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after a St. Clair County deputy tried to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle Schalk was driving for a moving violation. Schalk failed to yield to the deputy and sped southbound Highway 13 at a high rate of speed. Schalk continued southbound into Polk County. Polk County was notified and was able to spike the vehicle Schalk was driving. Schalk’s vehicle came to a stop and Schalk was taken into custody.

Shawn Lynn- On May 16, Shawn Lynn, 41, Springfield, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class B misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Lynn was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to northbound Highway 13 in regards to a vehicle stuck in a ditch and a person trying to wave down a car for help. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Lynn. Lynn stated someone had tried to run him off the road. The deputy noticed Lynn swaying and unable to stand still. A record check revealed Lynn had a suspended driver’s license. Lynn refused to take the field sobriety test. At the Sheriff’s Office, a breathalyzer test was performed. Lynn had a blood alcohol concentration of .193%.

Mariah Smith-Hempstead- On May 16, Mariah Smith-Hempstead, 26, Sikeston, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a Scott County warrant charging her with failure to appear in court. Bond is set at $250 cash only.

James Saunders- On May 13, James Saunders, 44, Kansas City, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Saunders was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Saunders was a passenger in for an equipment violation. The deputy asked for and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search, a glass pipe was located in the passenger door, where Saunders had been sitting. Also located was a plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance. The substance did field test positive for methamphetamine. Saunders admitted to the items to being his.

Douglas Sherlin- On May 13, Douglas Sherlin, 59, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor D unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Sherlin was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after the vehicle Sherlin was a passenger in was pulled over for an equipment violation. Upon contact with the driver, the deputy saw a marijuana cigarette sitting on the dash of the vehicle. The deputy asked the driver what it was and the driver stated it was marijuana. The deputy had the driver and the passengers exit the vehicle to perform a search. During the search, two syringes were located. Sherlin admitted to the syringes to being his. The syringes field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Larry Moore- On May 13, Larry Moore, 44, Blue Springs, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

The warrant comes after the vehicle Moore was a passenger in was pulled over for an equipment violation. Upon contact with the driver, the deputy saw a marijuana cigarette sitting on the dash of the vehicle. The deputy asked the driver what it was and the driver stated it was marijuana. The deputy had the driver and the passengers exit the vehicle to perform a search. While searching the vehicle a deputy located a glass pipe in the direct vicinity of Moore that contained a crystal-like residue.

Steven Younce- On May 13, Steven Younce, 38, Kansas City, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class E felony driving while revoked/suspended. Younce was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Younce was driving for an equipment violation. A record check revealed Younce did have an active suspension of his driving privileges.

Alyssa Enlow- On May 13, Alyssa Enlow, 26, Kansas City, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony unlawful possession of a firearm and a class B misdemeanor false impersonation. Enlow was placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges.

A record check revealed Enlow had three active warrants out of Jackson County.

The arrest comes after the vehicle Enlow was a passenger in was pulled over for an equipment violation. Upon contact, Enlow originally gave the deputy a false name. A K9 unit was called to the scene to perform an open-air sniff test. The K9 did alert to the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed a pistol and a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance. The substance did field test positive for methamphetamine.

Kristin Blunk- On May 12, Kristin Blunk, 33, Greenbrier, AR, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class E felony unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia-amphetamine or methamphetamine. Blunk was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Blunk was a passenger in for a moving violation. The deputy made contact with the driver. During the conversation, the deputy asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver handed the deputy a vape pen and stated the was THC in it.

The deputy got the driver and Blunk out of the vehicle. As the deputy was doing a pat-down search of Blunk for weapons, Blunk handed the deputy a vile and stated it was liquid amphetamine.

A search of the vehicle revealed a syringe with a liquid inside of it. The liquid field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Also recovered were multiple smoking devices, another syringe, and plastic baggies containing a crystal-like substance.

Blunk did admit to the deputy that all the drugs and paraphernalia did belong to her.

Aubrey Tindle- On May 12, Aubrey Tindle, 30, Osceola, was arrested by a St. Clair County deputy on a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class E felony unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia-amphetamine or methamphetamine. Tindle was booked and released pending formal charges.

The arrest comes after a St. Clair County deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Tindle was driving for a moving violation. During the conversation, the deputy asked for and was denied consent to search the vehicle. A K9 unit was called to the scene to perform an open-air sniff test. The K9 did alert to the odor of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle revealed an amount of marijuana and a glass pipe. A female officer searched Tindle and located a pill bottle on her person that contained a crystal-like substance.

Stealing in Appleton City

On May 16, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to the barbershop on 4th Street. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the building owner, Walt Gregory. Gregory informed the deputy someone had broken into the building through the front door. Gregory stated some rare coins, a single shot H.R. Topper Model 58 shotgun, and a Remington Model 24 auto .22 caliber rifle were missing. The total estimated loss is $600.

Stealing in Appleton City

On May 16, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to a plumbing shop that is attached to the barbershop in regards to stealing. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the shop owner, Gary Fennelwal. Fennelwal stated when the barbershop was broken into, so was his shop. Items missing include a Milwaukee power tool, a five-gallon gas can, full of gas, and a case of Busch beer was taken. The estimated loss value is $250.
