Region 11 (Southwest Mo.) of Missouri’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America held its Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) competitive events in Carthage on Jan. 19. Whether competing individually or as a team, there are more than 30 STAR Events in which students may compete. Some 17 of the 25 schools in the region sent competitors including Northeast Vernon County (NEVC) R-1 High School in Walker.

Said Mrs. Laurie Bybee, faculty sponsor at NEVC, “I was so pleased at the effort students put into their projects and it showed in the results.”
Events are classified according to levels with Level 1 being through grade 8, Level 2 reserved for students in grades 9 and 10 while Level 3 is for competitors in grades 11 and 12. Competitors may win a bronze (third level), silver (second level) and gold (first level).
Competitors from NEVC and their results include Charity Middleton and Avery Minor, Chapter Service Project Display-Level 3, Gold; Lillie Gerster and Maleah Hogan, Event Planning-Level 3, Gold; Crae Beth-Dighero Hutchison, Career Investigation-Level 3, Gold; Callie Ensor, Food Innovations-Level 1, Gold; and Brenna Armstrong, Sustainability-Level 2, Gold.
