The El Dorado Springs football team hosted the Summit Christian Eagles from Lee Summit. It was the third meeting of the two schools (going into the contest the record is split 1-1). The home team feel short 0-41 falling to 1-4 and on the year. Coach Beckner said, “It has been a tough start to the season, 4 of the 5 schools we’ve played will compete for a district title in their respective class and districts. We want to be a complete program and in order to get there we have to be able to compete with other complete programs. Regardless of records and scores, I am still very much proud to be this team’s head coach. They will continue to battle and we will continue to coach. Second half of the season starts this week with a big game against Warsaw.”

FACEOFF BEFORE GAME – Kerri Rader posted this photo of the Bulldogs meeting the Summit Christian players before their game.

The visiting Eagles started fast scoring three times in the first quarter, once off a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown. The Bulldog offense and defense struggled against the overall team speed of the visiting team. “It is tough to judge a team’s speed on film, and tonight showed that. They were a lot faster as a whole team than we expected. Their staff does a great job of getting them prepared. It has been a good series between us.” Going into halftime, the Bulldogs trailed 27-0. After the break, a fumbled exchange by the Eagles gave a spark to home team.

However, the drive failed to result in points. By the final whistle, the game ended with a score of 41-0 in favor of the visiting team. “It was a tough game, we know we are better than what we showed, alot of that goes to those guys over there, they were ready to play, some of that goes back on us. We have to keep figuring out a way to stop hurting ourselves and play a full football game. There is a reason not everyone plays or can play football…it’s hard. When it gets hard, you have to work harder. They will battle, kids are resilient.”

This week kicks off homecoming week for the Bulldogs as the Warsaw Wildcats come to town on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Come out and be loud!
