This past Friday the ElDo Bulldogs traveled to play Summit Christian Academy (Lee Summit). Due to restrictions with Covid the game was played at Harrisonville High School. Coach Beckner said, “It is a unique situation, neither team is truly the ‘home’ team and SCA hasn’t played on their home field all year long, I am just happy we are able to get a game.”

ElDo and SCA had played in years past, going into this year, the coaches and administrators wanted to ‘beef’ up the schedule for the 2020 season and have done a great job doing so. Many of the teams on the schedule are currently state ranked and have opportunities to play for district championships. Beckner added, “If we want to compete in district or for a district championship we have to play high quality teams, win or lose, these games will prepare us for our district and beyond.”

Gaven Morgan started the night at quarterback, and performed well. “Our offense is simple to a point, but anytime you step in the QB role, it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s a difficult situation. I was proud of his effort and shows more why he is one of our best players.”

Landon Murry was another player who started his first varsity game. “I thought Landon stepped in and played well, to go from Middle School to High School there is another type of game speed you have to adjust with, add in varsity vs jv and it is an even great speed change, he did well, I was happy with his effort and will continue to expect great things from him.” Defensively, senior Trey Graves continued to make plays all over the field. “I felt he was in on a lot of tackles, some he should have been, some he shouldn’t have and just made great effort.”

This week the Bulldogs were slated to play at Warsaw, due to Covid situations they were forced to cancel which would have left the Bulldogs with two cancelled games on the year. Fortintly AD Jeremy Barger had already been tracking other schools for a ‘what if’ situation and ElDo is now playing a home game against Lexington. “I am excited we were able to get a game, I was hoping to play Warsaw. They are a solid team and a conference opponent so I am not sure how that will affect the conference standings, Lexington has a great record which should help bump our strength of schedule in district standings. I am anxious to get to practice and get better at what we do.”
