The group was called together for their 65th Welch, Gerster reunion by Nancy Bailey and Sharon Barger telling the family how the Welch, Gerster reunion got started. Martha Welch Capps, Charley Gerster was visiting at the home of Martha Welch Capps and Floyd when they decided their were so many cousins who never knew each other, they should have a get together. Daisey Gerster sent out the post cards inviting cousins to come to Martha and Floyd’s home at Weaubleau.
The first year their were 30-35 who attended. The next two years it got more cousins coming. At that time it was decided to have the reunion in El Dorado Springs Park because it was the center for everyone to come.
The first one was the second Sunday in June of 1955. We have been getting together every year since in El Dorado Springs.
The blessing was asked by Joe Barger. A wonderful basket dinner was enjoyed by all. Those attending were:
