The Iris Belles Garden Club met for the monthly meeting at First Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs. Dorothy Foster, president, opened the meeting and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The “Club Collect”, just a few words neatly printed in the front of the member handbook is read / recited at each meeting. It says, “Help us, O Lord, to grasp the meaning of happy growing things, the mystery of sprouting seed and the opening bud, that we may weave it into the fabric of our faith in life eternal.” Those words help to set the tone for the meeting. We all love to be about and around growing things which helps us stay “grounded”.

Roll call, “What predators are in my garden?” prompted boastful talk of victory over armadillos, slugs, Japanese beetles and poison ivy. “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” – not just a sports slogan.

The business portion of the meeting included nomination of officers for the next term and club activities for the coming year. Sheryl Walker presented an informal program titled, “Good, Bad and the Ugly – Predators”. Refreshments were served and light chatter filled the remainder of the meeting time.

The next meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the First Baptist Church.
