MDC to offer fur handling clinic in Salem Feb. 10

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), and Missouri Trappers Association will offer a free clinic on fur handling Feb. 10 in Salem.

This workshop will familiarize participants with the basics of skinning, fleshing, and drying wild fur, and discussion will cover regulations, marketing fur, and general concerns of hunting and trapping fur bearers in Missouri.

“Proper handling of wild fur not only increases profit potential, but expands the taker’s total experience from harvest to finished product,” said MDC Conservation Educator Travis Mills. “Come experience this workshop and learn proper fur handling techniques from members of the Missouri Trappers Association and MDC.”

The workshop will take place 12 – 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at the MDC Salem Maintenance Center, 1715 W. Hwy. 32, in Dent County. Participants must be at least 10 years old to attend. Participants should wear clothes and footwear they don’t mind getting dirty.
