Services for Lela Elizabeth (Betty) Sims Williams will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in Bland-Brumback Funeral Home with burial in Stockton Cemetery

Lela Elizabeth (Betty) Sims Williams was born Oct. 29, 1926, in St. Clair County, the daughter of William Logan Sims and Tena Belle Birdsong Sims. She departed this life Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Betty was saved by the grace of God on Feb. 16, 1940, and has been a member of Stockton Missionary Baptist Church many years.

She was married to Jesse Williams on Jan. 12, 1947. Two children, Donna  Dean and Danny David, were born to this union.

Betty worked as an office assistant a number of years and had many friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna, El Dorado Springs, and grandchildren – Jon Brenton Cassell – Houston, TX; Julie Cassell West, Nevada; Michael Williams, El Dorado Springs and Desirae Smith, Stockton; eight great-grandchildren – Connor and Jackson West of Nevada, Kalen and Bailey Williams, El Dorado Springs, Indica, Sunshine, Rowen and Knoxx Smith of Stockton; several nieces and nephews – LaDean Hulse, Springfield, Carol Phillips and Nancy Culbertson, Stockton, Dale Sims, Hale, Missouri, Ronnie Sims and Karen Crain, Eudora; and Sandy Cary, El Dorado Springs and other great nieces and nephews.

Betty was the youngest of eight children, two dying in infancy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Williams on June 28, 1998; son, Danny Williams on March 25, 2013; one sister, Bertha Bishop; and four brothers – Oscar, John, Kay and Kenneth Sims. Also deceased are a niece, Esther Floyd, and nephews, Wayne Sims and Kenny Sims.
