Mary Lou Smith was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Kidder to Emmett and Anna (McDaniel) Wilson, one of eight children. She passed away at her home in El Dorado Springs on Aug. 27, 2018.

Mary Lou was united in marriage to Charles “Dick” Smith in 1982 and they have made their home in El Dorado Springs the past 25 years.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Wilson; two sisters, Doris Potts and Fern Graham; and her firstborn child, a son, Rocky Dean Whitney.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Charles (Dick) Smith, of the home. Her children in birth order are: Teena McElroy, Rod Whitney, Teresa Kreutzer and Todd Whitney; two brothers, Robert and William Wilson; two sisters, Erma Fewins and Pat Gates; grandchildren – Ramie Gordon, Willie McElroy and Dillian McElroy, Jeremiah McElroy, Conner Whitney, Mallory Diederich, Chris Dunn, Tyler Dunn, Trevor Dunn, Clint Whitney and Niki Whitney.

Services were held Friday, Aug. 31, in Poland-Thompson Chapel, Cameron, with Rev. Richard Evans officiating.

Music was “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” “Amazing Grace,” “Silver Thread And Golden Needles,” and “I Don’t Need No Rocking Chair.” Andy Griggs sang “If Heaven.”

Casketbearers were: Rod Whitney, Todd Whitney, Chris Dunn, Tyler Dunn, Trevor Dunn, Connor Whitney, Clint Whitney, Ramie Gordon, Willie McElroy and Dillon McElroy.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Cameron under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home. www.sheldonfh.com
