Merle B. Cochran, 84, was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in the rural Tiffin area to Benjamin Harrison Cochran and Lola Carmen (Smith) Cochran and passed away on April 5, 2014.

One of five children, three sisters and one brother, he grew up in the rural area. He met his wife, Jo Ann, at Nevada Hospital after a motorcycle accident. After their marriage in 1948, they moved to the Kansas City area briefly and then moved to the Tightwad area where they lived until moving back to the Tiffin area to the family farm in 1955, after the passing of his father. There they bore one son, Buell Cochran, and one daughter, Katherine, who died in infancy.

    Alice Rosalie (Smith) Rector, 78, El Dorado Springs, left this world for heaven on April 4, 2014, after an extended illness. Rosalie was born on Oct. 18, 1935, to John Lewis and Madge Ellen (Grayson) Smith in Cedar County.

    Rosalie was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She was saved as a young girl at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in 1949. She was a faithful member of Hazel Dell Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
