Sympathy to John Lewis family

Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Ann Schmize, Joe Vess and Amanda Wilson attended the VFW Christmas dinner and gift exchange at El Dorado Springs Monday evening, Dec.16.

Judy Gwyn of The Woodlands, TX, came Saturday, Dec. 8, to spend some time with her aunt, Frances Lewis, and her uncle, John Lewis, who passed away Sunday, Dec. 9. Judy’s husband, John, and her mother, Margaret Ann Haddix, of the Woodlands, TX, and her brother, Jim Haddix, of Maine, flew to Kansas City on Monday, Dec. 10. Judy met them at the airport to attend the funeral service for John Wednesday, Dec. 12. They all left for home on Friday, Dec. 14.

The community had dinner for the Lewis family after the funeral Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the community building at Schell City. Madalyn Crocker did the main meal with others in the community bringing food for the meal. Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Connie Locke and Ruth Ijams helped serve the meal and clean up. Sharon Sanderson helped with the cleaning.

Jewell and Helen Ellerman attended the family visitation and the main service at Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the funeral service at the Schell City United Methodist Church for John Lewis Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Those eating at Madalyn’s Kitchen after church Sunday, Dec. 16, were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Jeanie O’Brien, Frances Lewis and Ruth Ijams.

The Schell City/Harwood United Methodist Women met at Madalyn’s Kitchen Wednesday evening, Dec. 12. Those present were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Madalyn Crocker, Jeanie O’Brien, Ruth Ijams and Sharon Sterling. Helen Ellerman, president, conducted the business meeting. She gave the devotion taken from Luke 7:18-30. Pastor Locke read from the prayer calendar and had prayer. The purpose of UMW was repeated in unison. The card chairman reported sending several cards. They made several different devotions to several things. Helen Ellerman had the lesson “Lord, We See You.” The group sang ”Joy To The World” and “Silent Night.” Finger food was served which consisted of summer sausage, cheese, cheese ball, crackers, party mix, pizza, fruit, brownies, iced tea and coffee. The next meeting will be Jan. 16 at Madalyn’s Kitchen with everyone bringing finger food and Pastor Locke will have the lesson.

Church service was held at the Schell City United Methodist Church Sunday, Dec. 16. Pastor Connie Locke’s sermon “God Sings” was taken from Zephaniah 3:14-20, Philippians 4:4-7 and Luke 3:7-18. It was the third Sunday of advent. The candle for love was lit. Sunday School was held before church. Jeanie O’Brien led the lesson “Unity in The Body of Christ” taken from Ephesians 4:1-6. There will be a Christmas Eve service at the church at 5:30 p.m. with everyone invited to attend.

There will be a surprise 90th birthday card shower for Margaret Ann Haddix. A card can be sent to Margaret Ann Haddix c/o John Gwyn 150 E Crescent, The Woodlands, TX 77382. Her birthday is Dec. 24.
