Dixie Lee Carlton, 81, was born Nov. 9, 1931, and passed away Dec. 22, 2012.
On Nov. 19, 1948, Dixie was united in marriage to Joseph E. Carlton. They were divorced in December 1974. To this union three sons were born – Edward Lee, Richard Dwain and Joseph Eugene, and two daughters, Dixie Joe, who died at three weeks and four days of age and Lia who was stillborn.
Dixie was especially close to her grandmother Townsend who she thought of as a mother to her. After her grandmother passed away when Dixie was about 10 years old, she has fond memories of her grandfather walking to the one room schoolhouse on Fridays and took her to stay for the weekend. She attended school in Gallatin.
Dixie was a Den Mother and homeroom mother for her sons. She drove a school bus for 12 years, and she had jobs cooking, cleaning and doing yard and garden work as long as she was able. She enjoyed sewing, baking, making quilts and enjoying life.
Dixie is survived by her sons, Edward and Richard; a brother, Donald Townsend; a sister, Peggy McNeale; nephew, Dudley Davis; other relatives and friends.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 28, in Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, with Rev. David Studer officiating. Arrangements were by Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
