Thomas Eugene Courtney, 67, of rural Stockton, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, after battling cancer.
Thomas was born in Independence Aug. 23, 1945. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and his greatest influence was his mother, Madeline.
He married Wanda Witt on January 10, 1975.
He worked as a supervisor for O’Sullivan Industries for 19 years, and later enjoyed 12 years putting his knowledge to work for Taylor True Value and thrived in the social environment it provided. Thomas served as a Deacon in the Restoration Church and often put others before himself with his caring and friendly nature. He enjoyed golf, hunting and other outdoor activities with family and fostered a love for animals.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Courtney; four sons – Jay and Alana Martin – Nevada, Jody and Crissy Martin – Sheldon, Mike and Shelley Courtney – Odessa and Matt and Aubrey Courtney – Odessa; one daughter, Kim Burns – Stockton; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters – Gina, Patty, Ross Ann and Alice; numerous nieces and nephews; many special friends and a large extended family.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Ross Edward and Madeline Courtney, and son-in-law, Eric Burns.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, in Taberville Cemetery with David Cromwell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
