LET’S CROSS THAT BRIDGE… – The Cedar County Commission and the Missouri Department of Transportation officially opened the new bridge over Little Clear Creek on the Cedar/St. Clair County line on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

The Little Clear Creek bridge was officially opened Tuesday, Jan. 8. The portion of the road from Hwy. DD to Cedar County Road 601 had been officially closed for months while Boone Construction replaced the old bridge.

The construction company put in a low water crossing which local traffic used for weeks. After the bridge and dirt work were completed, the road closed signs were left in place but local traffic and the rural mail carrier used the bridge daily.

A Boone Construction foreman said there would be no load limit sign on the 40 ft. $200,000 bridge. He said, “If you can get it down this road, the bridge will hold it.”

On Tuesday, the bridge was officially opened after a walk-thru inspection and approval by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The old bridge had been downgraded to five tons several years ago meaning that the El Dorado Springs R-II school bus had to back track through Cedar Springs adding several miles to the route. R-II Supt. Mark Koca said Tuesday that Durham Bus Supervisor Vanessa Hardy told him she would change the route saving several miles of travel and thus reducing the cost.
