Greetings, My Fellow Missourians

This past week the citizens of Wheatland have been struck with tragedy. Wheatland Mayor Harold “Rowdy” Rempfer and his wife, Julia, were killed in a vehicle accident on Saturday evening. Harold and Julia have been very active, giving members of their community and will be greatly missed. There will be a visitation this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland. A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Aug. 30, at the Galmey Community Bible Church, Hwy. 254, 3 miles west of Lake Pomme de Terre Dam. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rempfer family at such a difficult time.

Early morning last Friday, the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department Building suffered fire damage. The firetrucks were saved; however, there was a lot of damage to the building and loss of equipment. I have contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation to give them a head’s up that the Wheatland team may need some assistance in replacing lost equipment.

Marla and I attended “An Evening to Remember” annual fundraising event for the Benton County Food Pantry last Saturday. It was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Warsaw with almost 200 people in attendance. The Benton County Food Pantry provides an incredible service throughout Benton County supplying food each month to 1500-2000 families, 216 senior boxes to seniors who are 60 years or older, and 25 veterans’ boxes. The Benton County Food Pantry is located at 121 Tower Drive in Warsaw and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am-12 noon and 1-3 pm.
