Brandon Rummel, Everton, won the American Bass Anglers D126 qualifying tournament held on Stockton Lake on Saturday, Jan. 12.
Rummel weighed in a five-fish limit that went 13.44 lbs anchored with his 5.41 lbs. big bass of the tournament. Second place went to Carl Cox, Aldrich, with a limit that weighed 11.41 lbs. Third place was Brent Algeo with 11.28 lbs.
Anglers reported the fishing being a little slow for Stockton, but were biting jerk baits, A-rigs and crank baits.
A major cold front was moving in, with pre-dawn temperature at 50 but by 8 a.m. launch time it had dropped to 40 ̊ with 10-15 mph NNW winds. Weigh-in started at 2 p.m. about an hour before the rain started and temperatures dropped even more.
Anglers compete for cash, prizes and points which qualify them to fish a two-day Championship on Stockton in July 2013 and a National Championship on Clarks Hill Lake in Georgia Oct. 23-25. There will be five more one-day tournaments and a two-day Championship held on Stockton Lake. The best four one-day tournament points and the two-day points determine year-end point totals for the D126 Angler of the Year award.
The next D126 tournament is scheduled for Feb. 17 launching from Old State Park Ramp. The rest of the schedule is posted at www.centralmidwestbass.com . You can also view full results with pictures of this and other tournaments.
ABA is designed for the week-end angler and is open to boaters and non-boaters. It is a draw format with partner pairing taking place the morning of each tournament. Anglers from age 14 can enter these tournaments.
