The local chapter of High Hopes was the beneficiary of a benefit auction fundraiser hosted by Eagles Aerie #4279.The event, held Sunday, Feb. 3, at the Eagles Lodge, was well attended. A total of $7,290 will be presented to High Hopes representative Janice Carter.

Ms. Carter and the late Barbara Pentecost founded the local chapter of High Hopes in 1996. Both were cancer survivors and felt there was a local and mutual assistance need for cancer survivors and struggling cancer patients.

High Hopes is involved in financial assistance for transportation expenses and various needs for individuals seeking aid. Following the benefit, a 22-250 rifle was won by Ed Morlan in a raffle drawing. Ed graciously donated the rifle back to be auctioned. The rifle was purchased for an additional $700. We thank Ed for this generous act for a very worthwhile cause.

Janice indicated all donated funding stays here in our community and is spent only on local families. They have furnished gas money for many patients to travel to doctors' appointments and chemo or radiation treatments.

Thanks to the many business and individuals for their contributions. Thanks to Gary Smith and Danny Newman (our auctioneer). Both spent many hours making this benefit happen.

Thanks to each of you who opened your pocketbooks or helped in any way.
