Thomas C. Thaxton, 79, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away Feb. 2, 2013, at his home in Nixa after a lengthy illness.
Thomas was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Plainview, TX, to Billy P. and Lila Faye Thaxton. He graduated high school from Downey California High. After graduation he moved to Kansas City, KS. It was there that he met and married Lela Faye Wood. To this union, five daughters were born.
Thomas worked as a union carpenter and was a member of 27L.
He had a deep love of the gospel. In 1967 he graduated from the Baptist Bible seminary as an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He pastored several churches in the Kansas City area.
Thomas and family settled in Virgil City in 1978.
He loved life, his family and enjoyed many things. He loved to garden and gave away bushels of the vegetables he so loved to grow.
Thomas had a deep love for Israel, getting to travel there many times. He loved going and visiting with his beloved Erickson family.
Survivors include his wife, Connie, of the home; daughters Brenda (Michael Hill) – El Dorado Springs; Karen (Tim Fugate) – Bartlesville, OK; Sharon Pruitt –Hot Springs, AR; Tracy Silies – Bartlesville, OK, and Janet Pike –El Dorado Springs; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers; sisters; numerous family members and friends; friend and mother of his daughters, Lela Faye Thaxton.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 6, under the direction of Gorman-Scharph Funeral Home with Rabbi John Holmes officiating. Interment was in the Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield.
