Anna Joy (Roby) Simmons, 78, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, after a long illness. She was born April 21, 1934, in Humansville to Dale Owen Roby and Ona Lee (Clayton) Roby. Anna Joy lost her mother at age two and lived for a while with her beloved Aunt Mae and Cousin Bobbie Jean. After Dale remarried, Anna Joy gained a new brother, Bob, and later a sister, Darlene, and brother, Lenard.
She was married to Howard Vernon Simmons on Aug. 1, 1952, and they lived and worked in Kansas City until relocating in El Dorado Springs in 1960. Anna Joy worked at the Shoe Factory, Royal Café, Dunbrooke and for many years at Doty’s Nursery.
She was a member at Union Hall Baptist Church.
Anna Joy was preceded in death by her husband Howard; her father, Dale, and mother, Ona; stepmother, Marguerite; brothers, Bob and Lenard; and two infant siblings.
Survivors include her sister, Darlene Megli – Lamar; sister-in-law, Becky Roby – Nevada; daughter, Lisa Brown, and husband, Brian – Dederick; granddaughter, Bobbi Brown, and great-grandson, Cooper; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Services began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in 11 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with David Studer officiating. Musical selections were picked by Anna Joy over the years. Burial followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Travis Roby, Chris Roby, Brandon Hamilton, Mike Hamilton, George Canfield and Alan Megli. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Brown, Mike Manley, Ronnie Simmons, Terry Simmons, Harold Simmons, Ivan Simmons, Darrel Simmons and Mike Horton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to High Hopes or to the Alzheimer’s Association and left at the funeral home.
